AccessHE Expos

Our popular AccessHE Expos brought together up to 100 learners from schools across London to learn about the spectrum of HE options and hear from our member universities.

The events were targeted at students with the potential to benefit from higher education (HE) who come from under-represented backgrounds, including those from lower socio-economic groups, those from disadvantaged backgrounds who live in areas of relative deprivation where participation in HE is low, looked after children, and disabled students.

At all events, attendees had a valuable opportunity to quiz current students about their higher education experiences. Universities presented interactive workshops which encouraged students to explore the key themes and questions noted below.

Year 9 Expos

These events targeted Year 9 students with the potential to progress to higher education (HE) and aimed to support them to find out more about the opportunities available and the benefits of HE.

The Expo encouraged students to consider the different elements of HE, including money, academic, social and health. As a result, students began to consider answers to the following questions:

  • How much does it cost to go to university?
  • What can I study at university and where?
  • Where do I live at university and what can I do in my free time?
  • What do I do if I feel unwell at university and what support is available.

Year 10 Expos

These events targeted Year 10 students with the potential to progress to higher education (HE) and aimed to support them to find out more about the opportunities available to them post-16 and at a higher education level.

The Expo encouraged students to think about the subjects they want to study, how their post-16 choices could impact on the HE options available to them, if they want to university and the cost of higher education. Students were encouraged to consider answers to the following questions:

  • How do I choose which subjects to study post-16?
  • Which subjects am I interested in?
  • Do I need to study particular subjects for some higher education courses?
  • Do I have a specific career or job in mind?
  • Should I go to university?
  • How much does university cost?

Year 12 and 13 Studying Outside London

These events gave students in Years 12 and 13 the chance to learn more about studying higher education (HE) away from home.

The Expo aimed to help students understand more about the benefits and challenges of studying outside of London. Attendees were encouraged to consider answers to the following questions:

  • What can I study and where?
  • How do I choose the best university and course for me?
  • What study support is available?
  • What support is there to help me settle in at university?
  • How much will it cost to study away from home?
  • What financial support can I get?
